Homecoming Parade

This was one of the first "professional" photos I took. I found that getting the lighting just right and focusing the camera with so many moving subjects was a real challenges. Nonetheless, it is still one of my favorite photos I've taken because I love the action and all the dynamic figures in the shot.

Homecoming Game

I really loved how cool the stadium looked with a sea of pink and so many people cheering on their home team. It took some fiddling to get the exposure on the photo to the appropriate setting, but I think that the pink really popped with all the students cheering in the stadium. I like how you can almost feel the excitement and energy through the photo.

Homecoming Football Game

Up until this point, I had never taken any kind of sports or action shots before. One of the biggest challenges I had with taking these types of shots was knowing where to shoot and when. I am not a big sports person, so it was challenging to know exactly where I should be to get a good angle. After a while, and a lot of trial and error, I figured out the rhythm of the game and was able to get a couple nice ones of our team. I like this one in particular because you can almost feel the tension before the football is thrown.

Homecoming Crowning

This was such a fun shot to get. It was super exciting to be able to take photos of our homecoming court at the game, but it was challenging to get really good ones since I had to be so far away. I wish I could have been closer, but I really love how our homecoming king looks in this shot. In real life, the wave is a hallmark of who he is. He is involved in so many things, including our news/radio channel and student council, that I felt this shot really showcased who he is as a person.

High schoolers light candles as part of the candlelight vigil held in honor of Kelly Hume, a Taft Middle School student who passed away in a car accident in Nov. 2020. After her passing, her mother, Holly Hume, established a scholarship and foundation in her name for Crown Point High School students called Kelly's Kindness.

Kelly's Kindness

Kelly's Kindness is a foundation created by a teacher who used to work at my school. At Kelly's vigil I took photos because they were awarding the last year's winner of the scholarship. It was a very emotional event. I spent a lot of time trying to get just the right shot to capture the feeling of the event. It was the middle of winter and freezing, but I think it was well worth it.

Gymnastics Practice

This photo was super fun for me to take, but it was also an exciting challenge. One of the hardest, and coolest, things about gymnastics is how dynamic and fast paced it is. Getting just the right shot can be really difficult, and I found this true when I took photos of my high school's gymnastics team at one of their practices. I found that getting the timing down was difficult and I had to do a lot of adjusting of the shutter speed depending on the event so that the photos came out crystal clear.
