Marketing & Audience Engagement

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!
One of the ways we promote ourselves is giving physical copies to all the major offices and media center in the school, that way students can look through them when they pass by and the people working those areas can help promote our new issue. We also send out an email to the entire school with an e-link to where we publish our online issue of Inklings on Issuu.com. Previously, we would also post information on our website directing people to where they can read, but that isn't currently something available to us.

Everyone's got an opinion
Since we are a student newspaper we try as much as possible to include student opinions from within our school. As a means of doing this we have opinion segments like "In Their View," "What do you think?," and "Speak Up" to allow students within our school to voice their opinions. This is something I find really helps people get excited about our paper because it is really cool when you find out you've been published in a real paper that others will see and read about.

Poll the Populous
As part of student involvement we also often do polls. In one of our most recent issues we had a story about Social Media. For this story I created a poll requesting information like what their top social media platforms were, the kinds of effects they feel social media has on teens, and what in their own lives is affected by social media.
Advertisements
When we were still a newspaper format, we would gather advertisements from around the community to help pay for the printing of our issues. Now that we are a newsmagazine and we don't give out 3,000 copies so that every student can have one, we don't have to do paid advertisements any more. Even still, I remember going to different places and asking local shops if they would like to have an advertisement placed in our next issue. We had really good reception with this and even had people put in ads for the whole year.
